The University of Vaasa on the west coast of Finland is one of the most international universities in Finland. The campus of the University of Vaasa is one of Finland’s newest campus areas located next to the sea, and it is often referred to as the most beautiful campus in Finland. In winter, you can take a walk on the frozen sea and in summer, you can see the boats passing by while having lunch in some of the campus restaurants.
The city of Vaasa is the sunniest city of Finland and with its 12 000 students, Vaasa is a lively student city. Every fifth person you meet is a student! Surrounding the city there is the beautiful Kvarken archipelago, a part of UNESCO’s World Natural Heritage sites since 2006.

University Sports and Recreation Liaison

  • The University Sports and Recreation Liaison is in charge of offering the best opportunities for students when it comes to sports.

Student Union of the University of Vaasa (VYY)

  • The Student Union of the University of Vaasa (VYY) handles supervision of student interests in education, social policy and international affairs at the University, in the city of Vaasa and nationally.
  • VYY also offers various services to its members, as well as organizational and support services to organizations and associations operating within VYY.
  • In addition, there are plenty of student associations organizing parties and events to meet your future employer.

Accommodation

Most students at the University of Vaasa live at VOAS apartments (Vaasa Student Housing Foundation). During the past few years, the VOAS has been able to offer accommodation to almost all first year students. VOAS provides accommodation for approximately 3 700 students.

Student Accommodation

  • Student accommodation facilities are situated in various parts of the city, generally in the form of terraced houses or blocks of flats.
  • Rent for a room in a student flat varies approximately from 230-350 EUR per month depending on size and location.

Family accommodation

  • Rent for family accommodation varies from 300-450 EUR per month. The deposit for a shared student flat is 170 EUR, and for family accommodation 300–400 EUR.
  • Please note that VOAS is a private company and not part of the University of Vaasa, and therefore students are expected to contact VOAS directly to apply for an apartment.

Scholarships & funding

University of Vaasa offers a generous scholarship programme for students who are subject to tuition fees.

  • Each Master’s programme will provide one 100% tuition fee waiver to the best ranked tuition fee subjected student based on previous academic merits reviewed during application process.
  • Each Master’s programme will also provide five 50% tuition fee waivers to the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth best ranked tuition fee subjected students based on previous academic merits reviewed during application process.
  • Every student proceeding with studies in the target time (approximately 55 ECTS during the first year) is entitled to a 50% tuition fee waiver for the second year.
  • If the student was granted a first year scholarship to the programme, the second year scholarship is included as long as studies proceed in the target time.
  • Student who do not have a first year scholarship can apply for the second year scholarship during studies. Details for the second year scholarships will be communicated to students during their first year.

My experience remains good at the University of Vaasa. Most courses are designed based on contemporary issues in industry and academia. A good combination of theory and industry Practices. More focused on student learning and skills development.
