Applicants to degree programmes will usually be expected to have studied three subjects at A level.
The University recognises that disparities in resources might mean some schools certificate AS levels while other schools do not, as a consequence whilst we value AS levels we will not make any offers on the basis of AS grades.
All conditional offers will ordinarily be made on the basis of three full A levels (some subjects are not included, please see our prospectus) and students will only be required to have achieved a pass in the fourth subject, if taken. The grade achieved in the fourth subject may have significance when an applicant has narrowly failed to achieve the specified grades at A level.
Our admission process recognises that applicants have a wealth of different experiences and may have followed various educational pathways. While our publicity materials generally express entry requirements in terms of A levels, most of our schools and faculties accept a much broader range of qualifications.
Students who require extra support to meet the English language requirements for their academic course can attend a presessional course at the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) to prepare for their future studies. Students who pass at the required level can progress directly to their academic programme without needing to retake IELTS.
All students follow a common programme of study for the first two years, studying core material that provides a solid practical foundation in engineering analysis and aircraft technology with hands-on design exercises and laboratory tests. In year three, you will work on a group design and make project, as well as choosing form a range of more specialised optional modules from within your chosen stream: general aerospace, aeromechanics or aeroelectrical. During your fourth year, you will undertake an individual project, as well as choosing from further specialised optional modules.
