About this program
PhD in Applied Sciences in Engineering
Applied Sciences in Engineering is a PhD programme focused on the research of problems in the boundary between engineering and natural sciences. The scope of the PhD thesis falls into one or more of the following areas:
Computer Simulations
Mathematical modeling, development of numerical models and computer simulations of problems from solid and fluid mechanics, acoustics and coupled phenomena, transport processes in rocks, electromagnetism, piezoelectric systems, intelligent materials, and metamaterials.
Applications: mechanical engineering, aerospace, biomechanics, geological applications (underground transport, radioactive waste disposal sites, underground gas storage, geothermal energy)
Physics and Optics
Research and development of methods in the field of optical measurements, interferometry, digital holography and microscopy, laser technology, compressed sensing, optical measurements in fluid mechanics.
Applications: high.performance laser systems, cosmic technology, optical detection of chemical matter, ultraprecise measurement of distance, shape, and vibration, new methods for image recording and processing, 2D and 3D measurement of the refraction index, nondestructive testing
Material Engineering
Piezoelectric and ferroelectric materials, intelligent materials and metamaterials, nanofibers and nanostructures, filtration, and membrane technology.
Applications: intelligent sensors, actuators, piezoelectric resonators, and micromechanical systems, particle filtration, wastewater treatment, tissue engineering
