Master of Bioscience Engineering: Cellular and Genetic Engineering

You are trained throughout the program to an advanced level in molecular and cellular biology, as well as biotechnology and its diverse applications. You are guided to acquire the disciplinary knowledge, skills and attitudes and to integrate them towards efficient and sustainable solutions for socially relevant problems.

Cell and tissue culture, recombinant DNA technology, genome analysis, molecular breeding of micro-organisms, plants and animals… are concepts that have gradually become commonplace. In this English-taught Master's you will focus on the various subdisciplines of genetics, molecular biology, genetic engineering and cell biology. In this way you not only learn about the relationships between genes in organisms and their function, but also how you can intervene. Due to the explosive increase in knowledge (including through the numerous projects on the determination of genome sequences), (bio-)informatics is gaining in importance in this course. You will learn how to apply all that knowledge in different sectors, such as the biomedical and pharmaceutical sector, agriculture and factory farming.

Admission requirements

Language requirements

All applicants who have not obtained a previous diploma in a program taught in English in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States of America must submit a certificate proving their proficiency in English. All applicants need to meet the minimum language requirements of KU Leuven. In addition, they need to have obtained minimum scores of at least 18/30 (TOEFL iBT), 6/9 (IELTS Academic or 170 (CAE/CPE) on each of the components tested (reading, writing, speaking, listening).
