MSc Vehicle Engineering
The master's program in Vehicle Engineering covers all aspects from vehicle design, functions and dynamic properties, to systems for safety and comfort, and vehicles as part of the transport systems. Students can specialise in Automotive or Railway Engineering. Admission requirements
English proficiency
English language proficiency equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6 is required. You can meet the requirement by achieving the minimum required score in the following internationally recognised English tests:
- IELTS Academic/IELTS UKVI: An overall score of 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5
- TOEFL iBT: Score of 20 (scale 0-30) in written test, total score of 90. We accept TOEFL iBT Home Edition and Paper Edition. We do not accept TOEFL ITP, TOEFL iBT MyBest, Institutional TOEFL, TOEFL Essentials, or the revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test.
- Cambridge Michigan Language Assessments: University of Michigan, Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE)
- Pearson PTE Academic or PTE Academic Online: Score of 62 (writing 61)
- Cambridge ESOL: C1 Advanced (CAE), minimum overall score 180 (points awarded since 2015), or Cambridge English certificate level C1, minimum score 180, or Cambridge English: Advanced

Design, development, calculation and testing of vehicles. Development of vehicle components and active vehicle systems. Systems analysis, energy and environmental assessments.
Career paths
The master's program in Vehicle Engineering provides an excellent basis for pursuing a career in the global automotive and rail vehicle industry, at consulting companies, transportation authorities, fleet operators, and universities and institutes active in this field. Vehicle engineering is a research-intensive area in which graduates from the program work with, for instance, design, development, calculation and testing of vehicles, vehicle components and active vehicle systems. Graduates also work with systems analysis and energy and environmental assessments of vehicles and transport systems. The cooperation between the Swedish vehicle industry and the Division of Vehicle Engineering and Solid Mechanics is very close. There are several major ongoing research programs in which KTH, key manufacturers and the transport administration are involved. Graduates from the program work at companies such as Volvo Cars, Scania, Volvo Group Trucks Technology, Bombardier Transportation, NEVS, CEVT, Daimler,BMW, Williams, Altran, Semcon, SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit, TÜV Süd, Öhlins, Continental, Bosch and many more.
