Program description

Master Biotechnology

From the Cell to the Biopharmaceutical

Biotechnology addresses the technical application of biological systems and living organisms, and their metabolic products.

The Master’s degree program in Biotechnology is a mentor-based study program and allows student flexible course selection. Students acquire solid scientific training in Biotechnology. Electives provide a deeper understanding of topics specific to Biotechnology and extend knowledge in related areas. Project work familiarizes students with scientific working methods and provide insights into prevailing research themes. The program concludes with a Master’s thesis project on a current research topic.

  • 2 research projects
  • Option for 12 week industrial internship
  • 35 weeks master thesis
  • Intensive lab training in the first year

The program offers two specializations (tracks): Track 1 (biomolecular orientation) and Track 2 (systems orientation). The individual study program for students in Track 2 will be designed in order to take into account lack of extensive training in chemical sciences, as might be the case for students from electrical or mechanical engineering or physics
