About this program
The first year is dedicated to general scientific courses and is common to all students of the Master of Applied Mechanics (SMA). In second year, they can choose among several independant programs. The Energetics and Propulsion program is one of them.
This Master is internationally recognized and accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education.
Language of instruction
100% of the language of instruction and examination in English during the first year including 160 hours of French language courses.
During the 2d year, courses and Master thesis are either in French or English language.
Objectives
The aim of the Energetics and Propulsion specilialization is to give students an advanced training on energetics (Applied thermodynamics) to study some propulsion plants, in particular internal combustion engines.
Specificity
Energetic and propulsion master starts with theoretical courses (gas dynamics, combustion, turbomachinery) which are then applied to study various propulsion plants (internal combustion engines, aeronautic propulsion and spatial propulsion). Experimental methods course includes practical studies and measurements carried out by master students on some research facilities available in the Laboratory (internal combustion engine test bench, turbocharger test bench, shock tube,..)
Courses are taught by various speakers from Centrale Nantes (Internal Combustion Engines Research Team) and others prestigious universities or leading companies (Snecma, Bosch,..).
Different Master thesis are offered in university labs (Centrales Nantes, Cranfield, Eindhoven, Birmingham, Valencia,..) or in companies (Renault, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Delphi, Valéo, Snecma, EADS ) in the field of propulsion.
Admission requirements
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science or Equivalent. (Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor's degrees are awarded before they enroll at Centrale Nantes).
- Applicants whose native language is not English are required to pass a recognized international English test such as TOEFL (score 220 CBT, 550 PBT, 80 IBT), Cambridge Advanced English Test (score B or higher), IELTS (score 6.5 or higher), TOEIC (800) or other English equivalent test.
An applicant who carried out his study in English is eligible, passing a recognized test provides him more chance to be accepted (official confirmation letter is needed). The English test result must be sent before the deadline of application.
