Artificial Intelligence and Automation Engineering
The MSc in Artificial Intelligence and automation engineering aims at providing high-level competences for the design, management, development and innovation in the fields of advanced hardware and software architectures, and of control systems and robotics. In particular, the program is focused on human-machine interaction in a wide sense, spanning topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, high performance processing of massive data collections, human-robot interfaces, and systems for production automation.

This is a 2-year graduate programme taught entirely in English, offered to both national and international students.
The program provides advanced competences in the area of computer and automation engineering, with courses covering topics such as: engineering tools for the design, evaluation and programming of high-performance and parallel computer architectures; artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques needed to implement intelligent systems; design patterns and methodologies for the implementation of complex software systems and distributed applications; advanced interfaces for the interaction with robots, such as vision systems and haptic interfaces; techniques for the analysis and design of discrete event systems and of multivariable and nonlinear control systems, with applications to robot control, path planning and multi-agent systems; mathematical and algorithmic tools for optimization over networks.

The competences required to be admitted to the MSc in engineering are:
- a background in mathematics, statistics and physics, equivalent to the one achieved in first-level (B.A.) engineering degrees;
- basics principles of computer science, control, electronics and telecommunications;
- basic programming skills.
Procedures at the Italian Diplomatic Representatives
Non-EU citizens are invited to contact the Italian Diplomatic Representation of their countries as soon as possible in order to obtain all the required documents for the pre-enrollment at the University of Siena and for information regarding the VISA process.

They must contact the appropriate Italian Diplomatic Representation in order to obtain all the documents required for enrollment in the University of Siena.
In order to take the MSc courses, students must have an adequate knowledge of the English language, at least of level B1 as established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students can demonstrate to possess the required knowledge level either through a recognized international certification (see the list) of international certifications recognized by the University of Siena), or by passing a B2 level exam at the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo (CLA).
After enrolment in Siena, students having an international certification must present it to the CLA office. The CLA is located in Piazza San Francesco 7, Siena (more details can be found in the related website).

In addition to in-presence teaching, which continues to be the preferred method also in the next Academic Year, every single lesson will be simultaneously live-streamed and/or video recorded and uploaded on our digital platform for subsequent viewing. This mode is essential for students who are temporarily unable to be on premises.
The tuition fee is calculated according to the country of origin and ranges from a minimum of € 756 to a maximum of € 2,626 (per year).

Graduates in Computer and Automation Engineering can find jobs in industries, public companies, financial institutions and research centres, whose R&D divisions carry out activities in the fields of information systems, industrial automation and robotics. Furthermore, the MSc in Computer and Automation Engineering allows students to access PhD programs in the areas of Information Engineering.
More specifically, the professions which are more suitable to the computer and automation engineer are those requiring advanced competences and skills on: industrial automation and process control; robotic systems; modelling and simulation of dynamical systems; data analysis; information systems; systems including artificial intelligence; design of hardware/software integrated systems; man-machine interfaces exploiting natural language; human-robot interfaces; design and management of biological databases.
Graduates in Computer and Automation Engineering can access the Italian Professional Society of Engineers, Information Engineering.
