The University of Latvia has been founded in 1919 and currently, with its more than 15,000 students, 13 faculties, and over 20 research institutes and independent study centers, is one of the largest comprehensive and leading research universities in the Baltics. To date, the University of Latvia has signed 136 bilateral agreements worldwide and more than 700 agreements with 368 institutions in 32 European countries within the ERASMUS+ program. Both incoming and outgoing exchange students use one of the available student mobility agreements: ERASMUS+, ERASMUS MUNDUS (Aurora, AESOP, LEADER), CAMPUS EUROPE, ISEP, bilateral agreements, and agreements between countries.

QS World University Ranking
This year, the University of Latvia (UL) has risen by 50 places in one of the world’s most prestigious rankings of higher education institutions – QS World University Rankings, and now occupies 651st–700th place, according to the data released on September 6. In 2015, UL was ranked 701st–800th. UL is the first and, so far, the only higher education institution in Latvia to be included in the ranking of this level, and the significantly improved position clearly shows that UL firmly stands among the world’s top 5% of universities.
