About this program
The School of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1997 by combining the Department of Mechanics, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Thermodynamics Engineering, and the State Key Laboratory of Engines.
All three main disciplines are recognized as National 1st Class with full authorization for awarding PhD degrees. Under these three disciplines, there are 14 subjects in which Fluid Mechanics and Power Engineering are identified as National Key Subjects by the Ministry of Education.
In recent years, Tianjin has developed strong links and has collaborated with a number of international universities, such as Michigan University (US), Warwick University, Brunel University, University of Sussex (UK), Mcgill University (Canada), Sydney University (Australia), and Universit Paris VI (Universit Pierre et Marie Curie France).
Annually, Tianjin recruits approximately 80 PhD students and 280 Master-level students. Various opportunities are provided to postgraduate students for their further study and future career development.
Each year, over 70 master students are able to directly enter a PhD study program. Some PhD and MSc (MA) students are granted to study abroad.

Scholarships
Tianjin offers international students comprehensive scholarships to cover tuition and living costs during their studies. With a scholarship, registration fees, tuition, laboratory fees, internship placements and accommodation fees on campus are exempted. The duration of the scholarship is the same as the duration of studies, which is confirmed when students are accepted to Tianjin University.
