In this Summer School you learn all about fundamentals in automation and simulation. The topic simulation features various exercises in a computer lab. You solve real world problems by applying software and acquire a solid understanding of methods used in mechanical engineering.
During a lab tour, you gain an insight into the institute's research approaches. In the automation part, you discuss modern automated production systems, covering all the major cutting-edge technologies of production automation.
The courses are highly interactive and contain a lot of intensive and fun teamwork.

Please note: Interested students should be studying mechanical engineering and show strong interests in mathematics. Moreover, they should have acquired basic skills in mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, computer science/programming techniques, machine drawing / machine elements and modelling.
We don’t require an English language proficiency test. However, we recommend a self-evaluation of your English language level according to one of the following scores to make sure that you are able to follow the lessons:
- TOEFL ibt : 72 points
- IELTS: 5.5 band score
- TOEIC: 785 points
- Cambridge: FCE, Grade C
- CEFR = B2

This Summer School programme covers the fundamentals used in automation and simulation. The topic of simulation features various exercises in a computer lab. As a student, you will solve real-world problems by applying software commonly used in industry and thus acquire a better understanding of methods used in mechanical engineering. Since you will be working in labs, you will gain an insight into the research approaches of the institute. The topic of automation will provide you with an overview of modern automated production systems and computer-integrated manufacturing with an introduction to the smart infrastructures that lead to the transformation to Industry 4.0. This course covers all the major cutting-edge technologies of production automation and the ways in which these technologies are used to construct modern manufacturing systems. Application examples are integrated throughout the lectures in order to give participants practical insight.

The programme fees amount to 2,990 EUR for the three-week Summer School programme.

Certificate & General Information
At the end of your Short Course, you will receive a Certificate of Participation together with a Certificate Supplement from RWTH Aachen University, stating the workload and the academic contents of your program.
At the end of each course, students will take a final exam or have to complete a project work (depending on the program) to receive a final grade.
Upon successful completion of a program, you will furthermore receive an Executive Certificate from RWTH Aachen University, stating the final grade.
