instrumentation and control consoleThe MSc Applied Instrumentation & Control degree helps to develop instrumentation professionals who must be equipped to understand the principles and implementation of instrumentation, the importance of efficient and reliable measurement and control systems and have a suitably wide perspective of the subject area so that a number of different approaches to a problem can be identified.

The Applied Instrumentation & Control curriculum has been developed in consultation with industry and may be broadly grouped in three areas:

  • The introduction of new facts and concepts in measurement and control: Measurement Theory & Devices; Data Acquisition & Analysis; Control Systems; Instrument Communication & Networking.
  • The application of facts and concepts to real measurement problems and systems: Measurement Systems; Industrial Case Studies; Project
  • Subjects which are of general importance to the professional engineer such as: Safety and Safety Management (incorporating a section on ethics) and Project Planning and Management.

post graduates completing this Applied Instrumentation & Control programme will have the confidence to develop new ideas and implement real measurement systems making them of considerable value to industry.

Admission requirements

Students wishing to study the MSc Applied Instrumentation & Control degree should meet the following requirements:

  • Honours Degree from a UK university or equivalent in a science or engineering subject or an equivalent qualification from an overseas institution. For mature candidates, equivalence to an Honours degree may be demonstrated
  • English proficiency - Academic IELTS test with a score of at least 6.0 (no element less than 5.5) or TOEFL with a minimum score of 550 (213 for computer based test).
